Red salute to the Korean people on the news of the death of Comrade Kim Jong Il Issued by: CPGB-ML Issued on: 19 December 2011 It is with feelings of deep and profound grief that we have learned the shocking news of the sudden passing away of one of the world’s most respected and beloved anti-imperialist leaders, Comrade Kim Jong Il, the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, the Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, and the leader of the Korean people. He was a great friend and teacher of the international communist movement, of the international working class, and of the national-liberation movements and the oppressed nations and peoples, and he was a close and dear comrade-in-arms of our party. Comrade Kim Jong Il devoted his entire life to the freedom and happiness of the Korean people, to the building of a thriving and powerful socialist nation, and to the anti-imperialist, socialist and communist cause of mankind. Born amidst the flames of war against the Japanese aggressors, he was brought up under the red flag and amidst bitter struggle against imperialist and other class enemies. Comrade Kim Jong Il was the most faithful, the most indefatigable and the most brilliant student of Korea’s greatest son, Comrade Kim Il Sung. It was he who took the President’s teachings of the Juche idea and the Songun idea and systematised them into a scientific programme for the revolutionary advance of the Korean people towards a great, prosperous and powerful nation. In so doing, he helped to create an impregnable anti-imperialist fortress, whose people are equipped with single-hearted unity of purpose and armed with a nuclear deterrent – and all this in spite of the sanctions, pressures, threats and provocations of US and other imperialists and their lackeys, the treachery and collapse of modern revisionism in the USSR and elsewhere, and repeated severe natural disasters. A great patriot and a great internationalist, Comrade Kim Jong Il advanced the cause of national reunification under the banner of ‘By our nation itself’. He made energetic efforts to promote the friendship and unity of the fraternal socialist countries, to revive and strengthen the international communist movement, and to support in every possible way all anti-imperialist struggles throughout the world and the efforts of oppressed peoples to build new societies. Comrade Kim Jong Il was modest and humble. He saw himself as a soldier and disciple of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung and as a servant of the people. He devoted himself day and night, did his best, devoted his all, to the very last moment of his life, to his revolutionary work: to the defence and security of the country, to improving the people’s livelihood, and to the lofty goals and ideals of socialism and communism. The Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist) solemnly lowers its banner and makes a red salute to this great leader, Comrade Kim Jong Il. We extend special and personal condolences to respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, as well as the confident expectation that he will continue and enhance the revolutionary legacy bequeathed to him by Comrade Kim Il Sung and Comrade Kim Jong Il. Not only the Korean people but all their friends and comrades will rally firmly around the Korean people and their new leader. We pledge our firm resolve to maintain and strengthen our unconditional support and solidarity to the revolutionary cause of the Korean people, led by Comrade Kim Jong Un and inspired by the revolutionary teachings and example of Comrade Kim Il Sung and Comrade Kim Jong Il.
