| CPC expresses thanks for earthquake condolences |

|
Following the devastating earthquake that hit China’s Sichuan Province on 12 May, the CPGB-ML sent its condolences to the Communist Party of China. (See ‘CPGB-ML pays tribute to earthquake victims’, Proletarian, June/July 2008)
In response to this, on 30 May, our party’s leaders received the following message from Comrade Ye Guoling, the Director General for British Affairs in the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China:
“Thank you very much for the letter of condolence to the earthquake victims in Sichuan Province. About 68,000 people lost their lives, and more than 19,000 people are still missing. We have got both financial and moral support from the friendly parties and countries all over the world. We’ll never forget that. Now the Chinese people in the whole country are making their best efforts to overcome the disaster and rebuild new homes. We are confident that, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the earthquake area will have a better future.”
